Sales of real estate involving FIRPTA: If you have sold real estate in the United States, and the transaction is subject to the Foreign Investment in Real Property Tax Act (FIRPTA), you will require an ITIN to comply with withholding and tax reporting requirements.

What Do I Need to Obtain My ITIN?
The IRS does not allow everyone to apply for an ITIN. You must have a valid reason to apply for it. In most cases, this can be done when filing your personal tax return. Other situations where this may apply are FIRPTA and Section 8 Properties.
When applying, you will need:
- Scanned copy of your passport.
- Address in your country of residence.
- We are authorized by the IRS to certify passports. You don’t need to get the certification in your country! We simply need to have a video call via Skype or a meeting at our office.
- W-7 Application (we will provide you with all the completed forms with your information).
- A valid reason to apply. Filing your taxes is a sufficient reason.
How long does the ITIN Application Process Take?
The process typically takes between 3 and 4 months. However, if the U.S. government receives a high volume of applications, it may take longer. Our team always works professionally to avoid delays and optimize the time as much as possible:
- Agility and Efficiency.
- Communication and Follow-up.
- Advance Preparation.
